Eco food in polytunnels

Eco food in polytunnels

The way how and what people are fed with influences not only their well-being, but their whole future. It is important to build understanding of healthy eating from a very young age. While it widely known that store shelves are filled with products containing many artificial ingredients and additives, fruits and vegetables chemically modified to extend their shelf-life. As well as more and more genetically modified marketed foods , many people still buy and eat “plastic” plants. Most of the products bearing a “BIO”, “ECO” or “GREEN” label have nothing to do with organic food.

Even if a product is indeed ecological, its price is the result of a trend rather than a production process. Fashion for “eco” products appears in developed societies. People who have taken care of basic needs are looking for fashionable solutions for life. One of them is the positive trend of taking care of your own health. Food manufacturers have come up with a great business idea, using the old method: “The more expensive , the better.”

Are “eco” products better than traditional ones?

To answer this question. Everything depends on the grower. Organic crops do not allow use of chemical fertilizers or treatments and GMOs. Although natural pesticides are allowed. The high concentration of natural substances is just as damaging as the excessive chemicals saturation . Chemo phobia, which affects people, often results from fear of the unknown. It may be that these super healthy food items from the store shelves are worse than conventional food. The research conducted by the WARENTEST Foundation showed that concentrations of certain elements contained in organic plants are at the same level as those without the “ECO” stickers. So what is the main driving force behind such products? Marketing of course.

Ecology Business

A significant part of products appearing on the “eco” shelves are of foreign origin. Instead of domestic products, our plates are filled with better flour, better apples, better strawberries, better and greener vegetables and fruit. While we produce those locally! The most reliable source of healthy food is a small local vegetable garden. Rather than the banner and logo of the supermarket stand. A 100% confidence rate will only be achieved when tomatoes, peppers, eggplants etc come from their own production.

ECO, BIO and ORGANIC in every garden

You do not need much knowledge of agriculture or horticulture to grow your own vegetables. There are two ways to grow vegetables : open field or under cover. It is important to become more independent over time, slowly neglecting shopping in supermarkets. Initially , this will not be possible, as plant production does not just consist of planting watering, pruning. With every plant, season after season, gardeners gain more knowledge. Confront new challenges and acquire experience. Yields will be more and more abundant , vegetables overfilling the baskets. And it is worth the wait. The whole process and efforts will produce juicy tasty fruits and vegetables creating colourful dishes for the home table, as well as  health and energy generated by this natural production.

Cheap ecological crops from the polytunnel

The price of a foil tunnel is equal to the cost of annual spending on vegetables and fruits for a family of four. For 300 euros, you can buy a 12.5 m2 tunnel , adding a few more quids for optional equipment. The polytunnel, in this case made of hot dip galvanized steel , is a structure that will last for many years. Every few seasons, you will need to replace the foil, but such an investment is still profitable .

You can discover about the many advantages of polytunnels. New gardeners are encouraged to read our cultivation guides and get acquainted with the Krosagro blog.  Cultivation possibilities under  cover are explained step by step.

How to live eco?

The answer is simple. Just run a vegetable garden, which will become a source of vitamins, nutrients, natural prebiotics and fun for the whole family. Of course, we encourage you to take advantage of the Krosagro tunnels features, but more importantly , stay away from the fake organic food.
